According to recent studies, the famous Atkins Diet may not be just another fad diet after all. Long thought to be ineffective, and even dangerous, by most doctors and scientists, the Atkins Diet advocates a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet that does not strictly limit fat intake. Though many experts scoffed at the idea that steaks and bacon could be part of a weight-loss program that works, these new studies are showing that the experts may have been wrong after all. One study, conducted at a major New York hospital, showed that patients on the Atkins diet actually lost weight more quickly than patients using a more traditional weight-loss diet. Additional studies are needed before a final conclusion can be reached about the Atkins Diet, and indeed, even researchers who found that the Atkins Diet was effective at helping weight loss expressed concern that it may have harmful side effects.
